This report analyzed 28 schools in New Jersey to see which ones were the most popular graduate certificate programs for students. To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from each school on the list.

Our 2023 rankings named Stevens Institute of Technology the most popular school in New Jersey for students working on their graduate certificate. Stevens is a medium-sized private not-for-profit school situated in Hoboken, New Jersey. It awarded 429 graduate certificates in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 32% were women.
Stevens does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. In 2019-2020 about 54% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Montclair State University. It ranked #2 on our 2023 Most Popular Graduate Certificate Schools in New Jersey list. Located in Montclair, New Jersey, the large public school handed out 265 graduate certificate awards in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 68% were women.
Some students may be able to take online graduate classes at Montclair State. In 2019-2020 about 91% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
You’ll be in good company if you attend Rider University. The school came in at #3 on this year’s Most Popular Graduate Certificate Schools in New Jersey list. This small private not-for-profit school is located in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, and it awarded 175 graduate certificates in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 83% were women.
Online graduate courses are available at Rider, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. During the 2019-2020 year, about 66% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
You’ll be in good company if you attend New Jersey Institute of Technology. The school came in at #4 on this year’s Most Popular Graduate Certificate Schools in New Jersey list. Newark, New Jersey is the setting for this fairly large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out graduate certificates to 122 students in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 35% were women.
You may have the opportunity to take online graduate classes at NJIT. During the 2019-2020 year, about 88% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
Out of the 28 schools in New Jersey that were part of this year’s ranking, The College of New Jersey landed the # 5 spot on the list. Located in Ewing, New Jersey, the medium-sized public school awarded 116 diplomas to qualifed graduate certificate students in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 71% were women.
Some students may be able to take online graduate classes at TCNJ. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 99% took at least some of their classes online.
Fairleigh Dickinson University - Metropolitan Campus did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for students to get a graduate certificate. It came in at #6 on the list. Located in Teaneck, New Jersey, the medium-sized private not-for-profit school handed out 84 graduate certificate awards in 2020-2021.

Rutgers University - New Brunswick came in at #7 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Graduate Certificate Schools in New Jersey ranking. Rutgers New Brunswick is a large public school situated in New Brunswick, New Jersey. It awarded 76 graduate certificates in 2020-2021.
By the time they get their graduate certificate, students from this school have racked up an average of $30,169 in student loans. Around 62% of those degree recipients were women.

Rowan University ranked #7 on this year’s Most Popular Graduate Certificate Schools in New Jersey list. Located in Glassboro, New Jersey, the fairly large public school handed out 76 graduate certificate awards in 2020-2021.

One thing to take note of is that Rowan does offer online graduate classes in some areas. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 36% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
College of Saint Elizabeth did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for students to get a graduate certificate. It came in at #9 on the list. This small private not-for-profit school is located in Morristown, New Jersey, and it awarded 65 graduate certificates in 2020-2021.
Around 83% of those degree recipients were women.
You may have the opportunity to take online graduate classes at CSE. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 49% took at least some of their classes online.
Seton Hall University landed the #10 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular graduate certificate programs. Seton Hall is located in South Orange, New Jersey and has a medium-sized student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 62 graduate certificates to qualified students.
Of those students who received their degree, 69% were women.
One thing to take note of is that Seton Hall does offer online graduate classes in some areas. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 75% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
With a ranking of #11, William Paterson University of New Jersey did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for students working on their graduate certificate.
