Our 2023 rankings named Rice University the best school in the Southwest Region for students working on their master’s degree.

Out of the 83 schools in the Southwest Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Trinity University landed the # 3 spot on the list.
Some students may be able to take online graduate classes at Trinity U. In fact, around 25% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around you if you attend Texas Christian University. The school came in at #4 on this year’s Best Master’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region list.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online graduate classes at TCU. In fact, around 82% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
Out of the 83 schools in the Southwest Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Texas A&M University - College Station landed the # 5 spot on the list.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since Texas A&M College Station does offer online graduate classes for certain majors. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 23% took at least some of their classes online.
Southern Methodist University ranked #6 on this year’s Best Master’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region list.
Some students may be able to take online graduate classes at SMU. In fact, around 40% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
Texas Wesleyan University landed the #7 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best master’s degree programs.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since Texas Wesleyan does offer online graduate classes for certain majors. In fact, around 59% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
Baylor University ranked #8 on this year’s Best Master’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region list.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online graduate classes at Baylor. During the 2019-2020 year, about 77% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
Texas Tech University ranked #9 on this year’s Best Master’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region list.
Texas Tech does offer online graduate classes for certain degree levels. In 2019-2020 about 49% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
The University of Texas at Dallas ranked #10 on this year’s Best Master’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region list.
UT Dallas does offer online graduate classes for certain degree levels. In 2019-2020 about 83% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
With a ranking of #11, University of Dallas did quite well on this year’s best schools for students working on their master’s degree.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since UD does offer online graduate classes for certain majors. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 42% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
Austin College did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best places for students to get a master’s degree. It came in at #12 on the list.
University of Houston ranked #13 on this year’s Best Master’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region list.
UH does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 77% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
With a ranking of #14, University of St. Thomas did quite well on this year’s best schools for students working on their master’s degree.

Abilene Christian University ranked #15 on this year’s Best Master’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region list.
Online graduate courses are available at Abilene Christian, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. During the 2019-2020 year, about 79% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
Oklahoma State University - Main Campus came in at #16 in this year’s edition of the Best Master’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region ranking.
Some students may be able to take online graduate classes at OSU. During the 2019-2020 year, about 60% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best places for students to get a master’s degree. It came in at #17 on the list.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since UT Rio Grande Valley does offer online graduate classes for certain majors. In fact, around 92% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.

With a ranking of #18, Arizona State University - Skysong did quite well on this year’s best schools for students working on their master’s degree.
Since the graduate programs at ASU - Skysong are online, the school is an excellent choice for graduate students who need more flexibility than what is offered at some other schools.
Lubbock Christian University landed the #19 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best master’s degree programs.
Online graduate courses are available at LCU, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. During the 2019-2020 year, about 46% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
University of Oklahoma Norman Campus did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best places for students to get a master’s degree. It came in at #20 on the list.
You may have the opportunity to take online graduate classes at University of Oklahoma. During the 2019-2020 year, about 54% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
With a ranking of #21, Oklahoma City University did quite well on this year’s best schools for students working on their master’s degree.
Some students may be able to take online graduate classes at OCU. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 12% took at least some of their classes online.
With a ranking of #22, University of Arizona did quite well on this year’s best schools for students working on their master’s degree.
One thing to take note of is that University of Arizona does offer online graduate classes in some areas. In 2019-2020 about 37% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
University of Houston - Clear Lake landed the #23 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best master’s degree programs.
One thing to take note of is that UH Clear Lake does offer online graduate classes in some areas. During the 2019-2020 year, about 91% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
Sam Houston State University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best places for students to get a master’s degree. It came in at #24 on the list.
SHSU does offer online graduate classes for certain degree levels. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 68% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
The University of Texas at Arlington landed the #25 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best master’s degree programs.
UT Arlington does offer online graduate classes for certain degree levels. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 65% took at least some of their classes online.
