Our analysis found Northwestern University to be the best school for students who want to pursue a doctor’s degree in the Great Lakes Region .
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online graduate classes at Northwestern. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 2% took at least some of their classes online.
You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around you if you attend University of Chicago. The school came in at #2 on this year’s Best Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Great Lakes Region list.
The excellent doctor’s degree programs at Union Institute & University helped the school earn the #3 place on this year’s ranking of the best schools in the Great Lakes Region .
If you are interested in distance education, Union is an excellent choice, since graduate classes are offered online.
The excellent doctor’s degree programs at University of Notre Dame helped the school earn the #4 place on this year’s ranking of the best schools in the Great Lakes Region .

Out of the 117 schools in the Great Lakes Region that were part of this year’s ranking, University of St Francis landed the # 5 spot on the list.

With a ranking of #6, University of Michigan - Ann Arbor did quite well on this year’s best schools for students working on their doctor’s degree.
Some students may be able to take online graduate classes at U-M. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 74% took at least some of their classes online.
Saint Mary’s College came in at #7 in this year’s edition of the Best Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Great Lakes Region ranking.
Since the graduate programs at St. Mary’s College are online, the school is an excellent choice for graduate students who need more flexibility than what is offered at some other schools.
Michigan Technological University landed the #8 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best doctor’s degree programs.
Michigan Tech does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 30% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
Olivet Nazarene University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best places for students to get a doctor’s degree. It came in at #9 on the list.
