This report analyzed 47 schools in the Great Lakes Region to see which ones were the most popular master's degree programs for students. To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from the Music program at each school on the list.

Top 10 Most Popular Music Master's Degree Schools
Our 2023 rankings named Indiana University - Bloomington the most popular school in the Great Lakes Region for music students working on their master’s degree. Located in the small city of Bloomington, IU Bloomington is a public school with a fairly large student population.
Women make up 50% of the music majors at the school.
A rank of #2 on this year’s list means University of Cincinnati - Main Campus is a great place for music students working on their master’s degree. Located in the large city of Cincinnati, UC is a public school with a very large student population.
Of the 133 students majoring in music at UC, 51% are male and 49% are female.

The in-demand master’s degree programs at Michigan State University helped the school earn the #3 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular music schools in the Great Lakes Region . Located in the city of East Lansing, Michigan State is a public school with a very large student population.
Of the 82 students majoring in music at Michigan State, 50% are male and 50% are female.
Out of the 47 schools in the Great Lakes Region that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Michigan - Ann Arbor landed the # 4 spot on the list. U-M is a fairly large public school located in the midsize city of Ann Arbor.

Northwestern University ranked #6 on this year’s Most Popular Music Master’s Degree Schools in the Great Lakes Region list. Northwestern is a very large private not-for-profit school located in the small city of Evanston.
Of the 58 students majoring in music at Northwestern, 48% are male and 52% are female.
Roosevelt University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for music students to get a master’s degree. It came in at #7 on the list. Roosevelt is a small private not-for-profit school located in the large city of Chicago.
Of the 56 students majoring in music at Roosevelt, 45% are male and 55% are female.
With a ranking of #8, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for music students working on their master’s degree. UIUC is a very large public school located in the city of Champaign.
Of the 46 students majoring in music at UIUC, 57% are male and 43% are female.
Cleveland Institute of Music came in at #9 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Music Master’s Degree Schools in the Great Lakes Region ranking. Cleveland Institute of Music is a fairly small private not-for-profit school located in the large city of Cleveland.
