Our 2023 rankings named American Public University System the most popular school in the Southeast Region for history students. Located in the town of Charles Town, American Military University is a private for-profit school with a fairly large student population.
A rank of #2 on this year’s list means Liberty University is a great place for history students. Located in the city of Lynchburg, Liberty University is a private not-for-profit school with a very large student population.
The excellent programs at George Mason University helped the school earn the #3 place on this year’s ranking of the best history schools in the Southeast Region . Located in the suburb of Fairfax, GMU is a public school with a fairly large student population.
Out of the 95 schools in the Southeast Region that were part of this year’s ranking, University of North Carolina at Wilmington landed the # 4 spot on the list. Located in the medium-sized city of Wilmington, UNCW is a public school with a large student population.

University of North Carolina at Greensboro ranked #8 on this year’s Most Popular History Schools in the Southeast Region list. UNC Greensboro is a fairly large public school located in the large city of Greensboro.
North Carolina State University ranked #8 on this year’s Most Popular History Schools in the Southeast Region list. NC State is a very large public school located in the large city of Raleigh.
Middle Tennessee State University landed the #8 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular history programs. Middle Tennessee State University is a very large public school located in the city of Murfreesboro.
University of South Florida - Main Campus did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular schools for history students. It came in at #11 on the list. USF Tampa is a fairly large public school located in the city of Tampa.
William & Mary did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular schools for history students. It came in at #11 on the list. Located in the suburb of Williamsburg, William & Mary is a public college with a medium-sized student population.
Florida State University landed the #13 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular history programs. Located in the midsize city of Tallahassee, Florida State is a public college with a fairly large student population.
With a ranking of #14, Louisiana State University and Agricultural & Mechanical College did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for history students. Louisiana State University is a very large public school located in the midsize city of Baton Rouge.
