Top 10 Best History Schools
Our 2023 rankings named Duke University the best school in the Southeast Region for history students. Duke is a large private not-for-profit school located in the large city of Durham.
Out of the 65 schools in the Southeast Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Vanderbilt University landed the # 2 spot on the list. Vanderbilt is a fairly large private not-for-profit school located in the large city of Nashville.
The excellent programs at American Public University System helped the school earn the #3 place on this year’s ranking of the best history schools in the Southeast Region . Located in the fringe town of Charles Town, American Military University is a private for-profit school with a fairly large student population.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of Virginia - Main Campus. It ranked #4 on our 2023 Best History Schools in the Southeast Region list. Located in the small suburb of Charlottesville, University of Virginia is a public college with a fairly large student population.

Out of the 65 schools in the Southeast Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Emory University landed the # 5 spot on the list. Emory is a large private not-for-profit school located in the large city of Atlanta.
With a ranking of #6, Virginia Tech did quite well on this year’s best schools for history students. Located in the small city of Blacksburg, Virginia Tech is a public school with a fairly large student population.
Citadel Military College of South Carolina came in at #7 in this year’s edition of the Best History Schools in the Southeast Region ranking. Located in the midsize city of Charleston, The Citadel is a public school with a small student population.
With a ranking of #8, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill did quite well on this year’s best schools for history students. UNC Chapel Hill is a very large public school located in the city of Chapel Hill.
North Carolina State University came in at #9 in this year’s edition of the Best History Schools in the Southeast Region ranking. NC State is a fairly large public school located in the large city of Raleigh.
James Madison University came in at #10 in this year’s edition of the Best History Schools in the Southeast Region ranking. JMU is a fairly large public school located in the city of Harrisonburg.
