The excellent programs at University of Pennsylvania helped the school earn the #3 place on this year’s ranking of the best history schools in the United States. Located in the city of Philadelphia, UPenn is a private not-for-profit school with a fairly large student population.

Georgetown University landed the #8 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best history programs. Georgetown is a very large private not-for-profit school located in the large city of Washington.
Northwestern University landed the #9 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best history programs. Located in the city of Evanston, Northwestern is a private not-for-profit college with a fairly large student population.
Tufts University came in at #10 in this year’s edition of the Best History Schools ranking. Tufts is a large private not-for-profit school located in the suburb of Medford.
University of Chicago ranked #11 on this year’s Best History Schools list. UChicago is a large private not-for-profit school located in the city of Chicago.
Vanderbilt University landed the #12 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best history programs. Located in the city of Nashville, Vanderbilt is a private not-for-profit school with a fairly large student population.
American Public University System came in at #13 in this year’s edition of the Best History Schools ranking. American Military University is a very large private for-profit school located in the fringe town of Charles Town.
University of Virginia - Main Campus ranked #14 on this year’s Best History Schools list. University of Virginia is a very large public school located in the small suburb of Charlottesville.
With a ranking of #15, New York University did quite well on this year’s best schools for history students. Located in the large city of New York, NYU is a private not-for-profit college with a fairly large student population.
Monmouth University ranked #16 on this year’s Best History Schools list. Monmouth is a moderately-sized private not-for-profit school located in the suburb of West Long Branch.
Ashland University landed the #17 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best history programs. Located in the town of Ashland, Ashland is a private not-for-profit college with a small student population.
