This report analyzed 23 schools in the Rocky Mountains Region to see which ones offered the best value programs for nursing students. The goal was to highlight schools with more affordable prices than others offering similar quality experiences.
This ranking is not just a list of inexpensive schools. We also consider each school's quality, since we believe a low-quality school may not be a 'bargain' at any price. Specifically, our score for quality is discounted by the published tuition and fees charged by the given college. This gives the cost per unit of quality for each college. The more quality your dollar buys, the better the value.
For nationwide and regional rankings, we use out-of-state tuition and fees in our calculations. For statewide rankings, we use average in-state tuition and fees.

Our 2023 rankings named Denver College of Nursing the best value school in the Rocky Mountains Region for nursing students. Denver College of Nursing is a small private for-profit school located in the large city of Denver.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state undergraduate student at Denver College of Nursing are $12,367 a year.
Out of the 23 schools in the Rocky Mountains Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Western Governors University landed the # 2 spot on the list. Located in the large suburb of Salt Lake City, WGU is a private not-for-profit college with a fairly large student population.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state undergraduate student at WGU are $7,452 a year.
WGU also took the #4 spot in our Best Nursing Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region rankings.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Brigham Young University - Provo. It ranked #3 on our 2023 Best Value Nursing Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region list. BYU is a fairly large private not-for-profit school located in the city of Provo.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state undergraduate student at BYU are $6,120 a year.
BYU also made our Best Nursing Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region list, coming in at #3.
You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around you if you attend Northwest Nazarene University. The school came in at #4 on this year’s Best Value Nursing Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region list. Located in the medium-sized suburb of Nampa, NNU is a private not-for-profit college with a small student population.
NNU undergraduate students pay an average of $34,390 in tuition and fees each year.
Out of the 23 schools in the Rocky Mountains Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions landed the # 5 spot on the list. RMUoHP is a small private for-profit school located in the midsize city of Provo.

Westminster College Utah did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best value schools for nursing students. It came in at #6 on the list. Westminster College Salt Lake is a small private not-for-profit school located in the medium-sized city of Salt Lake City.

University of Providence did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best value schools for nursing students. It came in at #7 on the list. University of Providence is a small private not-for-profit school located in the small city of Great Falls.
