In 2020-2021, 162 people earned a degree or certificate in literature, making the major the #238 most popular in the United States.

To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from the Literature program at each school on the list.

Our 2023 rankings named New York University the most popular school in the United States for literature students working on their master’s degree. NYU is a fairly large private not-for-profit school located in the city of New York.

Of the 40 students majoring in literature at NYU, 43% are male and 57% are female.

Fairfax, VA

A rank of #2 on this year’s list means George Mason University is a great place for literature students working on their master’s degree. Located in the suburb of Fairfax, GMU is a public college with a very large student population.

About 75% of the students majoring in literature at the school are women while 25% are male.

The in-demand master’s degree programs at Center for Advanced Studies On Puerto Rico and the Caribbean helped the school earn the #4 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular literature schools in the United States. Located in the large city of San Juan, Centro de Estudios Avanzados de Puerto Rico y El Caribe is a private not-for-profit school with a fairly small student population.
