Our 2023 rankings named University of Michigan - Ann Arbor the most popular school in the Great Lakes Region for engineering students working on their master’s degree. U-M is a fairly large public school located in the city of Ann Arbor.
Of the 1,221 students majoring in engineering at U-M, 72% are male and 28% are female.
The in-demand master’s degree programs at Purdue University - Main Campus helped the school earn the #2 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular engineering schools in the Great Lakes Region . Purdue is a very large public school located in the small city of West Lafayette.
About 29% of the students majoring in engineering at the school are women while 71% are male.
A rank of #3 on this year’s list means University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is a great place for engineering students working on their master’s degree. UIUC is a fairly large public school located in the city of Champaign.
Women make up 27% of the engineering majors at the school.
A rank of #4 on this year’s list means Ohio State University - Main Campus is a great place for engineering students working on their master’s degree. Ohio State is a fairly large public school located in the city of Columbus.

University of Wisconsin - Madison ranked #6 on this year’s Most Popular Engineering Master’s Degree Schools in the Great Lakes Region list. UW - Madison is a very large public school located in the city of Madison.

Illinois Institute of Technology did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for engineering students to get a master’s degree. It came in at #7 on the list. Illinois Tech is a moderately-sized private not-for-profit school located in the city of Chicago.
About 28% of the students majoring in engineering at the school are women while 72% are male.
With a ranking of #7, University of Michigan - Dearborn did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for engineering students working on their master’s degree. UM Dearborn is a moderately-sized public school located in the midsize city of Dearborn.
Women make up 17% of the engineering majors at the school.
