Our analysis looked at 33 schools in the Great Lakes Region to see which doctor's degree programs were the most popular for students. To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from the Engineering program at each school on the list.

West Lafayette, IN

Our 2023 rankings named Purdue University - Main Campus the most popular school in the Great Lakes Region for engineering students working on their doctor’s degree. Purdue is a fairly large public school located in the small city of West Lafayette.

About 26% of the students majoring in engineering at the school are women while 74% are male.

A rank of #2 on this year’s list means University of Michigan - Ann Arbor is a great place for engineering students working on their doctor’s degree. U-M is a fairly large public school located in the city of Ann Arbor.

About 22% of the students majoring in engineering at the school are women while 78% are male.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. It ranked #3 on our 2023 Most Popular Engineering Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Great Lakes Region list. UIUC is a very large public school located in the small city of Champaign.

Of the 201 students majoring in engineering at UIUC, 80% are male and 20% are female.

The in-demand doctor’s degree programs at Ohio State University - Main Campus helped the school earn the #4 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular engineering schools in the Great Lakes Region . Ohio State is a very large public school located in the city of Columbus.

About 26% of the students majoring in engineering at the school are women while 74% are male.

Out of the 33 schools in the Great Lakes Region that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Wisconsin - Madison landed the # 5 spot on the list. UW - Madison is a very large public school located in the large city of Madison.

Women make up 18% of the engineering majors at the school.

Evanston, IL

Northwestern University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for engineering students to get a doctor’s degree. It came in at #6 on the list. Northwestern is a fairly large private not-for-profit school located in the city of Evanston.

Of the 116 students majoring in engineering at Northwestern, 67% are male and 33% are female.

University of Notre Dame landed the #7 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular doctor’s degree engineering programs. Notre Dame is a large private not-for-profit school located in the large suburb of Notre Dame.

About 23% of the students majoring in engineering at the school are women while 77% are male.

East Lansing, MI

Michigan State University ranked #8 on this year’s Most Popular Engineering Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Great Lakes Region list. Located in the small city of East Lansing, Michigan State is a public college with a very large student population.
