Our analysis looked at 13 schools in the Rocky Mountains Region to see which programs offered the best value experiences for engineering students with the aim of identifying those quality schools that are more affordable than some of their counterparts.
Our ranking of value is based on the quality of a program as defined in our per sticker price dollar. More specifically, we discount our quality score by the published tuition and fees charged by a school. This gives the cost per unit of quality for each college. The value is determined by how much quality your dollar buys.
In our regional and nationwide rankings, out-of-state tution and fees are used in our calculations. Average in-state tuition and fees are used for our statewide rankings.

Our 2023 rankings named Brigham Young University - Provo the best value school in the Rocky Mountains Region for engineering students. Located in the medium-sized city of Provo, BYU is a private not-for-profit school with a very large student population.
BYU undergraduate students pay an average of $6,120 in tuition and fees each year.
In addition to its best value ranking, and one of the reasons why the school is on the list, BYU is ranked #3 for overall quality for engineering in the Rocky Mountains Region .
A rank of #2 on this year’s list means Montana Technological University is a great value for engineering students. Montana Tech is a small public school located in the remote town of Butte.
Out-of-state tuition fees for undergraduate students at Montana Tech are $22,509 per year.

Out of the 13 schools in the Rocky Mountains Region that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Wyoming landed the # 3 spot on the list. UW is a fairly large public school located in the town of Laramie.
UW undergraduate students pay an average of $16,957 in tuition and fees each year.

You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around you if you attend University of Colorado Denver/Anschutz Medical Campus. The school came in at #4 on this year’s Best Value Engineering Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region list. CU Anschutz is a fairly large public school located in the city of Denver.
Out-of-state tuition fees for undergraduate students at CU Anschutz are $26,376 per year.

Colorado State University - Fort Collins landed the #6 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best value engineering programs. Located in the city of Fort Collins, Colorado State is a public college with a very large student population.

Colorado School of Mines did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best value schools for engineering students. It came in at #7 on the list. Located in the large suburb of Golden, Mines is a public school with a medium-sized student population.

As a testament to the quality of education it offers, CU - Boulder also is in the top 15% of our Best Engineering Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region ranking.
University of Idaho landed the #10 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best value engineering programs. U of I is a fairly large public school located in the town of Moscow.
Out-of-state tuition fees for undergraduate students at U of I are $27,576 per year.
