With 61,791 degrees and certificates handed out in 2020-2021, engineering is the #4 most popular major in the United States.

Also there are many trade schools that offer short-term programs that open up more career options.

To assist you in seeing some of the education options that are available to you, Grad Degree Search has created its Best Value Engineering Master's Degree Schools in the New England Region ranking. This report analyzed 22 schools in the New England Region to see which ones offered the best value master's degree programs for engineering students. The goal was to highlight schools with more affordable prices than others offering similar quality experiences.

Our ranking of value is based on the quality of a program as defined in our per sticker price dollar. Specifically, our score for quality is discounted by the published tuition and fees charged by the given college. This gives the cost per unit of quality for each college. The more quality your dollar buys, the better the value.

In our regional and nationwide rankings, out-of-state tution and fees are used in our calculations. For statewide rankings, we use average in-state tuition and fees.

Fairfield, CT

Our 2023 rankings named Fairfield University the best value school in the New England Region for engineering students working on their master’s degree. Fairfield U is a moderately-sized private not-for-profit school located in the suburb of Fairfield.

The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state graduate students at Fairfield U are $19,498 a year.

Fairfield U excels when it comes to quality. It’s ranked in the top 10% of all schools on our Best Engineering Master’s Degree Schools in the New England Region list.

West Haven, CT

Out of the 22 schools in the New England Region that were part of this year’s ranking, University of New Haven landed the # 2 spot on the list. University of New Haven is a moderately-sized private not-for-profit school located in the large suburb of West Haven.

The excellent master’s degree programs at University of Hartford helped the school earn the #3 place on this year’s ranking of the best value engineering schools in the New England Region . UHart is a medium-sized private not-for-profit school located in the medium-sized city of West Hartford.

Out of the 22 schools in the New England Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Northeastern University landed the # 4 spot on the list. Located in the large city of Boston, Northeastern is a private not-for-profit school with a fairly large student population.

The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state graduate students at Northeastern are $26,095 a year.

As a testament to the quality of education it offers, Northeastern also is in the top 15% of our Best Engineering Master’s Degree Schools in the New England Region ranking.

Out of the 22 schools in the New England Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Massachusetts Institute of Technology landed the # 5 spot on the list. Located in the medium-sized city of Cambridge, MIT is a private not-for-profit college with a fairly large student population.

Out-of-state tuition fees for graduate students at MIT are $58,967 per year.

In addition to its best value ranking, and one of the reasons why the school is on the list, MIT is ranked #1 for overall quality for engineering in the New England Region .

Harvard University landed the #7 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best value master’s degree engineering programs. Harvard is a very large private not-for-profit school located in the midsize city of Cambridge.

Harvard graduate students pay an average of $52,170 in tuition and fees each year.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute ranked #8 on this year’s Best Value Engineering Master’s Degree Schools in the New England Region list. Located in the midsize city of Worcester, WPI is a private not-for-profit school with a medium-sized student population.

WPI graduate students pay an average of $29,040 in tuition and fees each year.

On top of its placing in our value ranking, WPI also did well on our Best Engineering Master’s Degree Schools in the New England Region list. It’s in the top 15% of all schools reviewed in this analysis.
