The goal was to highlight schools with more affordable prices than others offering similar quality experiences.

Our ranking of value is based on the quality of a program as defined in our per sticker price dollar. Specifically, our score for quality is discounted by the published tuition and fees charged by the given college. This gives the cost per unit of quality for each college. The more quality your dollar buys, the better the value.

In our regional and nationwide rankings, out-of-state tution and fees are used in our calculations. For statewide rankings, we use average in-state tuition and fees.

Our analysis found Northeastern University to be the best value school for engineering students who want to pursue a doctor’s degree in the New England Region . Located in the city of Boston, Northeastern is a private not-for-profit college with a very large student population.

Out of the 15 schools in the New England Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Massachusetts Institute of Technology landed the # 2 spot on the list. Located in the medium-sized city of Cambridge, MIT is a private not-for-profit school with a large student population.

The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state graduate students at MIT are $58,967 a year.

MIT also took the #1 spot in our Best Engineering Doctor’s Degree Schools in the New England Region rankings.

Out of the 15 schools in the New England Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Harvard University landed the # 3 spot on the list. Harvard is a fairly large private not-for-profit school located in the medium-sized city of Cambridge.

Out-of-state tuition fees for graduate students at Harvard are $52,170 per year.

In addition to its best value ranking, and one of the reasons why the school is on the list, Harvard is ranked #2 for overall quality for engineering in the New England Region .

The school came in at #4 on this year’s Best Value Engineering Doctor’s Degree Schools in the New England Region list. Located in the midsize city of Worcester, WPI is a private not-for-profit college with a medium-sized student population.

The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state graduate students at WPI are $29,040 a year.
