This report analyzed 37 schools in the Great Lakes Region to see which ones were the most popular master's degree programs for students. To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from the Mechanical Engineering program at each school on the list.

Our 2023 rankings named Michigan Technological University the most popular school in the Great Lakes Region for mechanical engineering students working on their master’s degree. Located in the remote town of Houghton, Michigan Tech is a public school with a moderately-sized student population.

Of the 152 students majoring in ME at Michigan Tech, 90% are male and 10% are female.

Purdue University - Main Campus

West Lafayette, IN

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Purdue University - Main Campus. It ranked #2 on our 2023 Most Popular Mechanical Engineering Master’s Degree Schools in the Great Lakes Region list. Purdue is a fairly large public school located in the small city of West Lafayette.

About 14% of the students majoring in ME at the school are women while 86% are male.

The in-demand master’s degree programs at University of Michigan - Ann Arbor helped the school earn the #3 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular mechanical engineering schools in the Great Lakes Region . U-M is a very large public school located in the city of Ann Arbor.

Of the 110 students majoring in ME at U-M, 75% are male and 25% are female.

The in-demand master’s degree programs at University of Cincinnati - Main Campus helped the school earn the #4 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular mechanical engineering schools in the Great Lakes Region . Located in the large city of Cincinnati, UC is a public college with a fairly large student population.

A rank of #5 on this year’s list means Illinois Institute of Technology is a great place for mechanical engineering students working on their master’s degree. Illinois Tech is a moderately-sized private not-for-profit school located in the city of Chicago.

About 25% of the students majoring in ME at the school are women while 75% are male.

University of Michigan - Dearborn did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for mechanical engineering students to get a master’s degree. It came in at #7 on the list. UM Dearborn is a medium-sized public school located in the midsize city of Dearborn.

Of the 66 students majoring in ME at UM Dearborn, 86% are male and 14% are female.
